\nI was pretty out of it, and Gabriel\u2019s voice made me jump
\nabout three feet in the air\u2014from my knees, no less. I did a
\nkind of jerky half turn and fell to my left side, landing on my
\nelbow so I wouldn\u2019t squash Beezle while keeping him out of
\nGabriel\u2019s sight. The impact reverberated through every hurt
\nmuscle and bone in my body, and I gritted my teeth as I glared
\nup at him.
\n\u201cKnock much?\u201d I said.
\n\u201cThe door was open,\u201d he said, gesturing down the stairs.
\nHe stood in the doorway, looking just as cool and dark and
\nbeautiful as he had the day before. He wore the same expensive
\ncoat and shoes, and the slightest of creases appeared
\nbetween his eyebrows as he frowned down at me. \u201cMay I ask
\nwhat happened to you?\u201d
\nOh, a giant freaking demon was just here trying to take my
\nheart and bring it back to his master. No big . . <\/em>.<\/p>\n
